The Kerzner Marine Foundation is a private non-profit foundation that encourages the preservation and enhancement of global marine ecosystems though scientific research, education and community outreach. As part of this commitment, Dolphin Bay serves as the first marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation centre in Dubai.
Elsewhere in the Middle East, the Foundation supports the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and The Indian Ocean Research and Conservation Association (IORCA) in their work to research, understand and protect the Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve in Oman, already an established marine protected area. In spite of its biological wealth, there are relatively few marine conservation areas in the Arabian region. The reserve includes nine uninhabited islands which are surrounded by coral reefs that protect numerous small, white sandy beaches. |
